On January 29, 1934, Empresa de Automóveis do Caniço, Lda., emerged as a limited liability company, founded by eight visionary bus owners: João Freitas Patrício, José Indaleto Izidro de Freitas, Alexandre Vieira, José Vieira, José Teixeira Júnior, António Freitas Forte, José Filipe Rodrigues and Henrique Franco Júnior. This determined group requested authorization from the General Board of the District of Funchal to join forces in creating coordinated timetables, and on February 28, 1934, they launched the pioneering regular passenger service, linking Caniço to Funchal.
Known as EACL - Empresa de Automóveis do Caniço, this Portuguese company is a reference in intercity bus transport.
